The symptoms of ADHD

The symptoms of ADHD may include any of the following:

  • Trouble with concentration or focusing
  • Restlessness
  • Impulsivity
  • Disorganization
  • Difficulty completing tasks
  • Decreased ability to tolerate frustration
  • Mood swings
  • Difficulty managing stress
  • Difficulties in relationships

The assessment of ADHD

Although the diagnosis of ADHD is by definition what professionals call a “behavioral diagnosis” -meaning that the diagnosis could technically be made on the basis of simple observation-, doing so is actually very bad practice. ADHD is assessed using standardized cognitive tests and the assessment of ADHD requires specialized training. Different professionals can legally diagnose ADHD, including psychologists, neuropsychologists, and physicians. However, only neuropsychologists receive specialized training in the assessment of ADHD and of all cognitive functions, and can diagnose problems with these functions. If however you wish to understand your cognitive functioning or the cognitive functioning of your child, then we strongly recommend seeking an assessment by a neuropsychologist (neuropsychological assessments or psychoeducational assessments).

Specialised coaching

Our ADHD coaches are specialized in ADHD and can help you, your spouse, or your child overcome some of the struggles tied to ADD or ADHD. They will teach you how to effectively implement strategies that will help you achieve your full potential at home, at work, or at school.

Fees

We offer different packages at different fees. Some packages are for a complete assessment of all cognitive functions. The fee normally includes a preliminary meeting (for example with the parents of a child), two assessment meetings, and a feedback session. We will also provide you with a detailed report along with recommendations. If your school or employer wishes to gain a better understanding of the diagnosis, we will be happy to set up a telephone appointment with them to discuss things further, with your permission of course.

In some cases, a targeted assessment for ADHD may be all that is needed. Such as an assessment will not cover all cognitive functions, but should be sufficient to determine of ADHD is present or not. The fee for such as an assessment is lower than for a full assessment. Please contact us and ask to speak to a neuropsychologist for more information.

The fees for other services, including for specialized coaching, psychotherapy and career and vocational counselling depend on the service offered. Fees for some of services can be found here. Please contact us for more information (514-419-3005 or info@medipsy.ca).

A team approach

For some people, specialized coaching will be sufficient to get the person on track. For others, medication is what is needed. For some people, however, the treatment of ADHD may require multidisciplinary work, meaning that it may be beneficial to have different professionals offer their expertise. Everyone is different, so Medipsy can design a team approach that suits individual needs.
