Un projet fou? An initiative to make psychotherapy an insured health service for all Quebecers

Psychotherapy services are not accessible to everyone as they are not part of insured services that are covered by the government. This situation persists despite the fact that the majority of individuals living with a mental health problem would prefer to have access to psychotherapy services as opposed to having medication as the only option available to them.

Charles-Albert Morin, 29 years old, knows this situation well. He has been living with a mental health problem since his early twenties and his experience demonstrates that access to psychological services like psychotherapy, can significantly improve the life trajectory of young individuals that find themselves struggling with a mental health problem.

In an effort to give meaning to the challenges that he overcame, he decided to contribute to the debate regarding the medicalization of mental illness, the resources committed to mental health and the question of access to psychotherapy services. Charles-Albert continues his efforts to inform the public about the need for equal access to psychotherapy by taking on a bold initiative: from the 4th to the 10th of October 2016, Mr. Morin proposes to run between Montreal and Quebec, with stops in Terrebonne, Joliette and Quebec.

This initiative will be launched Tuesday the 4th of October 2016 at 9:00 at the Cégep du Vieux-Montréal as a part of a press conference where Charles-Albert will talk about his personal experience and the objective of his initiative.

The message that he wants to deliver is simple: the government must include psychotherapy as part of insured services.
