ADHD clinic for children & adults

What's normal and what's ADHD?
Almost everyone has some ADHD-like symptoms at times. If your difficulties began recently or occur only occasionally, or are in the past, you probably do not have ADHD. An ADHD diagnosis is made when symptoms start in early childhood and are persistent and disruptive enough to cause ongoing problems in more than one part of your life.
Diagnosis of ADHD in adults can be challenging because certain ADHD symptoms are similar to those caused by other conditions, such as anxiety or mood disorders. Many adults with ADHD also have at least one other mental health condition.
Looking for more information?
The staff of the Medipsy ADHD Clinic have developed a website entirely dedicated to ADHD: www.adhd-tdah.ca.
On that website, you will find information about ADHD in children and adolescents and about ADHD in adults. We review the symptoms of ADHD and help you decide when a formal assessment is required. You will also find detailed information about the services we offer for children with ADHD and for adults with ADHD. You will also find informational videos and other helpful resources.
The assessment of ADHD
Although the diagnosis of ADHD is what professionals call a “behavioral diagnosis”, diagnosing on the basis of simple observation is actually poor practice. ADHD should be assessed using standardized cognitive tests and by professionals with specialized training. Different professionals can legally diagnose ADHD, including psychiatrists, psychologists, neuropsychologists, and physicians. However, only neuropsychologists and psychologists receive specialized training in the assessment of ADHD and of all cognitive functions, and can diagnose problems with these functions. If however you wish to understand your cognitive functioning or the cognitive functioning of your child, then we strongly recommend seeking an neuropsychological assessments or psychoeducational assessment.
Specialised coaching
Our ADHD coaches and therapists are specialized in ADHD and can help you, your spouse, or your child overcome some of the struggles tied to ADD or ADHD. They will teach you how to effectively implement strategies that will help you achieve your full potential at home, at work, or at school.
Team approach
For some people, specialized coaching will be sufficient to get them on track. For others, medication is what is needed. For others, the treatment of ADHD may require multidisciplinary work, meaning that it can help to have different professionals offer their expertise. Everyone is different, so Medipsy can design a team approach that suits individual needs.
